Skylight Project Developer

Professors Bruce Dunham and Matias Salibián-Barrera (Department of Statistics, UBC) are seeking a Developer for their Skylight Project, “Creating Computer-Based Assessments.” This role is ideal for a graduate student with an interest in statistics education, electronic assessment, and strong programming skills. The goal of this project is to develop an online (i.e., digital) environment of assessment questions that can be used for the new course, STAT_V 416: Advanced Linear Modelling. The incumbent will be responsible for coding computer-based assessments. There is also the possibility for this position to be combined with a TA role (0.5 FTE) for STAT 416.

• Code and test assessment questions for use in PrairieLearn and WeBWorK for STAT 416
• Provide support for computer-based testing and online homework activities during Term 2 of STAT 416
• Evaluate and compare online assessment platforms to inform future use in STAT 416
   

• September 8, 2026 – April 27, 2027

• This is an hourly Graduate Academic Assistant position with an average of 6 hours per week ($40.16/hour)
• Workload will vary week to week
• If workload deviates from the allocated (30) hours/week over a four‑week period, a review will be conducted with the supervisors to reassess workload and hours allocation, with the possibility of adjusting compensation and/or responsibilities

• Current graduate student
• Demonstrated knowledge of statistics at the upper undergraduate level in the area of linear models; preference may be given to candidates with experience of advanced topics in linear modelling
• Familiarity with either PrairieLearn or WeBWorK online assessment platforms
• Experience programming in R language
