
Tiange (Ivy) Liu receives this year's Nash Medal
The Nash Medal in Statistics was awarded this academic year to Tiange (Ivy) Liu, who graduates with Combined Honours degree in Statistics and Mathematics. Ivy’s grades are 90% and above in fourth year Statistics courses. She worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the Statistics Department in the Summer of 2022. As a next step, Ivy will continue her studies in the fall in the Master of Science program in Statistics at the University of British Columbia.

Saifuddin Syed wins 2023 Pierre Robillard Award
We are proud of Saifuddin Syed for having received the Pierre Robillard Award from the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC). Saif won this prize for his thesis “Non-reversible parallel tempering on optimized paths”, which was supervised by Professor Alexandre Bouchard-Côté.

2022-2023 Data Science Award Winner Kaitlin Sullivan
Kaitlin Sullivan has been in the Cembrowski lab in Neuroscience since April 2019, starting in the MSc program and now in the fourth year of a PhD program. She has 3 publications as first author amongst 5 publications.

Marshall Prize 2022-2023 winner Evan Sidrow
Evan Sidrow has made important contributions in the development of statistical methodology involving complex hidden Markov models and applications to the analysis of animal movement. His PhD co-supervisors are Marie Auger-Methe and Nancy Heckman. Evan has been involved in Animal Movement Reading Group and the Statistical Ecology Research Group.

Professor Lang Wu appointed as Associate Director representing Alberta/BC/Yukon
Congratulations to our Professor Lang Wu on his role as the Associate Director representing Alberta, British Columbia, and Yukon of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI). As an Associate Director, Lang will provide feedback on all aspects of CANSSI operations, help steer CANSSI developments, and adjudicate the smaller budget programs as well as the CANSSI Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships program.
